AFTERNOON TEA AT DAKOTA DELUXE

LEEDS CITY MAGAZINE COLUMNIST VAUGHN THOMAS VISITS DAKOTA DELUXE TO TASTES THEIR AFTERNOON TEA SELECTION

Leeds is often referred to as the ‘Knightsbridge’ of the North and Dakota definitely reinforces that reputation.

I love a good afternoon tea, it’s a great British tradition and where better to sample this than at one of our newest additions to the City, Dakota in between Greek Street and Russell Street. Dakota initially originated from responding to a gap in the higher end hotel market and has changed the game in the Leeds hotel fraternity for sure. They have brought something totally new to the City, affordable luxury.

Afternoon tea or a brunch in some form is offered by a lot of eateries these days however if you are looking for something special in gorgeous surroundings, Dakotas delivers.

As we entered the building via the front sliding doors we were warmly greeted by a door host and directed towards a reserved area. As we passed through the reception and bar area we soaked up the 1920s décor and clean the finish of all the furnishings were stunning.

In keeping with its aesthetic image the afternoon tea is of the highest quality. Dakota offer several different varieties of Tea I opted for the English Breakfast, you can’t beat a posh brew in a funky glass teapot. There was also a great selection of savoury sandwiches on offer, we chose Egg, chicken and mustard-mayo, smoked salmon and ham. Moving on from the savoury and onto my favourite part of the event, the sweets. The homemade scones are incredible with lashes of clotted cream and a slither of jam, I would highly recommend.

The traditional afternoon tea has always consisted of the standard components however if you are looking for something more adventurous you can always add a crisp glass of champagne into the mix, perfect for a romantic weekend getaway or a group catch up with friends.

After the fantastic scones I wasn’t quite sure of the order I should go through in terms of desserts but as a big fan of macaroons, I chose to have a strawberry flavoured one on the next tier which was delightful. After a couple more of the sweets I was well and truly full and although everything was really good the star of the desserts for me was the ‘Dome’ which is filled with Rhubarb jam.

As we finished off my pot of tea it was nice to relax in beautiful surroundings and reflect on
the experience, the service Dakota provides is of a really high standard. Having dined here on an evening previously my experience today during afternoon tea was exactly the same, the staff were friendly, smart and very attentive and catered to our every requirement. Ten out of Ten.

Having sampled The Savoy and Fortnum and Mason in London, I was really impressed with the level of service, presentation and flavours of the Dakota’s Afternoon Tea. To say Dakota is competing and up there with some of the most prestigious names in the business is a real compliment and they are certainly one of the contenders for the best afternoon tea in Leeds.

When it comes to price the afternoon tea is very reasonable and you get a lot for your money, with a price point to rival any other eatery in the city for me Dakota is by far the best option. Contemporary refined luxury Dakota makes you feel special and transports you away in comfort from the hustle and bustle of city life to a relaxed and pleasant environment. If you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion or just fancy going somewhere nice – this is the venue to be.

Thank you to Vincent at Dakota for your hospitality and looking after me. I will be back for another afternoon delight very soon.

Regards Vaughn!
