CITY DWELLER MAGAZINE CHECKS OUT THE BELLS, THE NEW SERVICED APARTMENTS IN LEEDS CITY CENTRE
When I first entered the originally named Kirkgate House I couldn’t believe what a state of disrepair this beautiful old building had been left to fall into. It had stood empty for nearly 20 years and was now a derelict shell full of pigeons and dust.
I had a vision for the building and that was to develop the space into luxury apartments that would have large living spaces and characteristic features complimenting the original historic building.
I have always had a passion for design so the chance to utilise the natural feel of materials and raw building elements was something I wanted to highlight throughout the whole building. Exposed brickwork, alternative wall coverings, original flooring and stained glass windows were utilised at every opportunity and either left in place, relocated to form new features or up-cycled into bespoke furniture. I was keen to develop potentially unusable spaces and add outside areas to each apartment giving the feel of space and freedom.
The apartments gradually took place and each of the rooms were inspired by my various experiences and travels across the world creating something, that I believe, Leeds has never seen before. We named the building ‘The Bells’ after the beautiful sound of the Leeds Minster bells that can be heard across the city of Leeds and the apartments were named after famous bells such as Big Ben & Liberty with their own inspirations, unique decor and individual styles.
All of our exclusive serviced apartments have breathtaking views of the Leeds Minster, beautifully designed interiors, relaxing bedrooms, generous living spaces, fully equipped kitchens and high-speed Wi-Fi. We also have several apartments with their very own hot tubs on private balconies.
The project progressed to suit the ever changing design and after two years we finally completed our project The Bells Serviced Apartments. I am very proud to see my vision become reality with the support of Terry George, Leeds Minster and the talented team that has worked on this from the very beginning. Bringing the building back to life has been something that we have all been very passionate about doing.
I hope you enjoy these apartments as much as I have enjoyed being part of this development and look forward to seeing you here at The Bells.
