IT’S CHRISTMAS EVE IN VICTORIAN LEEDS, BUT THE COLD-HEARTED EBENEZER SCROOGE HASN’T AN OUNCE OF FESTIVE CHEER.

A ghost story at the stroke of midnight this Christmas, ring any bells? There is nothing more exciting or able to get you into the true festive spirit of Christmas than the telling of Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol. Make no mistake you are in for an extraordinarily enchanted treat heading to the newly branded Leeds Playhouse to see this new production come to life. In their brilliant pop up theatre, as the redevelopment is well underway, this magical story unfolds showing us all the true meaning of Christmas!

It’s Christmas Eve in Victorian Leeds, but the cold hearted Ebenezer Scrooge (Robert Pickavance) has no festive spirit for himself let alone anyone else. As the cold night draws in, four ghostly spirits take Ebenezer on a magical journey through his past, his present and his future, hoping to show him the error of his ways. This timeless Charles Dickens tale is brought vividly to life with incredible music, staging and an array of fantastic characters full of life and incredibly engaging with the audience. The director Amy Leach has taken this heart-warming and spooky story to new heights encapsulating the scary dark side as well as the humility and love from within.

The talented cast all play an important part in creating the perfect setting with some pretty knock out performances. Joe Alessi as Marley’s Ghost and Mr Fezziwig is fabulous, you can’t take your eyes off him. Amazing characterisation injected to both these characters as well as the ensemble work throughout the show. Elexi Walker as Belle and the Ghost of Christmas Present delivers a punch, with great audience interaction and comedy magic. Darren Kuppan and Jo Mousley as Mr and Mrs Bob Cratchit steal our hearts as they struggle to provide for their family especially Tiny Tim (Lipalo Mokete/Seb Smallwood) who’s fate lies in the balance.

Be amazed and enchanted with one of the greatest Christmas tales told, where magic and kindness rule the heart to bring out the best in everyone. Merry Christmas and God bless us, every one.
