Northern Ballet kicks off 2018 season with Leeds debut of two major productions

Jane Eyre: 7 – 14 March 2018
Las Hermanas | Concerto | Gloria: 16 – 17 March 2018

Northern Ballet is commencing its 2018 season by performing two major productions in Leeds for the first time. A celebration of Yorkshire and ballet heritage, Leeds-based Northern Ballet will start with performances of Jane Eyre, followed by a triple bill of short ballets by internationally renowned choreographer Kenneth MacMillan, which are rarely performed outside of London.

Northern Ballet’s Jane Eyre is an adaptation of the original novel by Charlotte Brontë. The production originally premièred in 2016 and was nominated for a South Bank Sky Arts Award in 2017. It will be performed in Leeds for the first time at Leeds Grand Theatre from 7 – 14 March 2018. Following one of literature’s most iconic heroines as she fights to find her independence and happiness, Jane Eyre is choreographed by acclaimed British dance maker Cathy Marston and set to a score of original and existing compositions arranged by composer Philip Feeney and played live at every performance by Northern Ballet Sinfonia. Sets and costumes are designed by Patrick Kinmonth and lighting is designed by Alastair West.

Following nine performance of Jane Eyre, Northern Ballet will present a triple bill featuring Kenneth MacMillan’s Las Hermanas, Concerto and Gloria for three performances only from 16 – 17 March 2018, also at Leeds Grand Theatre. This run follows the Company’s Royal Opera House mainstage debut where they received glowing five star national reviews for performances of Gloria.

The three works featured in this triple bill showcase the Company’s dramatic and technical strengths in some of MacMillan’s most famous works which are performed by leading ballet companies around the world. Las Hermanas is a tense psychological drama telling the story of five sisters living under the tyrannical rule of their mother; Concerto is a dazzling classical showpiece guaranteed to thrill; and Gloria is a deeply moving and haunting tribute to the fallen of World War I.

Tickets for all performances are now on sale. A multi-buy offer is available for audiences wishing to book for both productions. See leedgrandtheatre.com or call the Box Office on 0844 848 2700* for details.
