Mixologists from ten of the city’s best-loved bars rocked up armed with premium liquors, posh mixers and fancy ingredients to show us what they’re made of, and boy, did they show us. Some would argue that Tuesday is a little early to indulge in a cocktail-tasting session, but then who’s listening when the likes of The Botanist, Jakes Bar and Manahatta are in town?
Take Me to the Candy Shop
The first concoction to grab our attention came from Malmaison, who blended Salted Caramel Kahlua with espresso and cream to create the rather lush ‘My Caramel Romance.’ Amazing.
Sticking with the sweet-tooth theme, we then moved over to the guys from Oracle, who have made like 50 Cent and raided the candy shop. They whipped up a mixture of Grey Goose, lemon and lime and homemade bubble gum syrup, topped with candy floss to create the Fairground. Featuring flavours much subtler we expected, it was something of a showstopper.
True Brit Spirit
Be At One is one of our favourite after-work retreats, so we were keen to try the patriotic ‘Brit Spritz.’ Consisting of prosecco, elderflower cordial, soda and Kamm & Sons bitters, it was a refreshing little number that would go down a storm on a hot, summers day.
Our final, ‘one for the road’ tipple came from Chida Cantina, who are set to open in what was Sandinista in the coming weeks. Tequila is very much a marmite liquor; however, the Chida Fizz may just sway the haters.
Blessed with Don Julio Blanco tequila, Cocchi Rosa, lemon, cucumber and hibiscus cordial, the drink was garnished with a pickled radish and white flower, and tasted amazing. If that’s a sign of things to come in their new bar, we’re already there.
If you haven’t already snapped up tickets for The Cocktail Experience, then there are a limited number of tickets still left, which you can purchase from Eventbrite. We’ll see you there.
