  • 18-metre long dinosaur is a new free attraction for the summer

Mysterious dinosaur footprints have appeared on the streets of Leeds this week – and it can now be revealed that they belong to a huge animatronic Tyrannosaurus Rex which has ventured into the city centre.

The prehistoric predator, which measures 8 metres tall and 18 metres long, was unveiled at Trinity Leeds today.

The T-Rex, which not only moves but roars, will remain at Trinity Leeds throughout the school summer holidays before becoming extinct once again on September 2nd.

Visitors can also capture a selfie of the ‘roar-some’ replica, which is the UK’s largest animatronic T-Rex.

The installation is free for the public to visit, and is being supported by LeedsBID (Leeds Business Improvement District) and Trinity Leeds in conjunction with Child Friendly Leeds.

Andrew Cooper, Chief Executive at LeedsBID, said: “It is important for Leeds city centre to be a playful place, offering child-friendly spaces and activities for children, young people and families to enjoy.

“It is a great opportunity to have this roar-some attraction in the city centre for the duration of the school summer holidays. LeedsBID is delighted to be involved and supporting this new attraction.”

Councillor Helen Hayden, Lead Member for Children and Families at Leeds City Council, said: “We are delighted that Trinity Leeds shopping centre continues to show their support for children and young people in Leeds by participating in the Child Friendly Leeds Sundays project.

“We know that many young people will love the opportunity to take part in this fantastic dinosaur themed event! The success of Child Friendly Leeds depends on the involvement of all our ambassadors – through their support, we are able to make Leeds the best city for children and young people to grow up in.

“We are very grateful to Trinity Leeds shopping centre for offering children and young people this unique opportunity.”

Dan Wharton, Marketing Manager at Trinity Leeds, added: “Dinosaurs capture people’s imaginations and transport them to another world millions of years ago.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience what it’s like to be face-to-face with one of history’s most spectacular predators and we’re so excited to welcome it to Trinity Leeds.”

This week, giant dinosaur footprints appeared (see photos) in several different locations around the city centre as a teaser ahead of today’s unveiling.

Trinity Leeds’ T-Rex will be in place from 21st July until 2nd September. The installation is free to attend and is accompanied by a pop-up dinosaur shop.
