LEEDS CITY MAGAZINE MEET JOSHUA JEWITT, GENTS HAIRDRESSER AT
What does your job entail?
My job requires me to look after all of my clients to the highest of standards, not only the highest level of hair care but the highest level of professionalism and customer service.
Why did you choose Leeds to open your business?
I’ve been cutting hair since I was 16, I started 12 years ago, I’m now 28. I’m third generation barber as my grandad opened his first shop in the 70’s, my mum also took up the trade. I chose to open the business in Leeds as all my clients either work or live in Leeds, and the location of the shop on Lower Briggate is perfect for all my clients, with it being very central.
Is there one specific thing that makes you proud of your business?
The thing that makes me proud of the business is, the chilled out, relaxing vibe in the shop, but still keeping things professional. A lot of other barbers shops are too over the top and in your face, some people like that, but if your more of a relaxed person, that just wants a quality hair cut, No.3 is the place for you..
What are the current hair styles that are trending?
The current styles that are in at the minute are either, the uniformed short back and sides, or short and textured on top (crop) but down at No.3 all of our staff are highly trained to achieve any look that your wanting (long or short haircuts).
If you could style two people’s hair dead or alive who would it be and why?
Billy Bremner of LUFC, the greatest Leeds player in history, he would have had some amazing stories to tell about the club. And David Beckham, a English footballing legend that always looks on point! His hair cuts are always a talking point, even after all these years. I Would like to create a hair cut for him myself.
What makes you happy?
I have a wife and young daughter, even though I work a lot of hours, the thing that makes me the happiest is being with the family on my days off and walking the dog around Ilkley, where we live.
If anyone is reading this and would like to follow in your footsteps what advice would you give?
The advice I’d give to anyone wanting to follow in my footsteps, is always put yourself first and look after no.1 never give up to get where you want to be.
What do you do to relax?
I relax by going to watch Leeds United at the weekends, and days out with the family. Watching Leeds has been a bit better this season. Long may it continue!!
