The smash hit musical everyone’s been waiting for has finally strut into town with sparkly red stiletto heels and masses of attitude… The award winning Kinky Boots brings the shoe-making industry of Northampton to centre stage here in Leeds at the Grand Theatre, and we don’t want to miss a single step! The well-heeled boot and shoe manufacturing originated in the major market town, being a central point in the country for distribution helping the industry flourish. Bringing things right up to date in the fictional factory of Price & Sons the future of shoes as they’ve known them looks very uncertain…
Charlie Price (Joel Harper-Jackson) has flown the nest to start a life for himself in London, but when his farther suddenly dies his world is drawn back to Northampton to run the family business. His fiancé Nicola (Helen Ternent) is less than pleased at this prospect and their future. In a desperate attempt to turn things around Charlie meets an unexpected inspiration in Lola (Kayi Ushe) who’s a force of nature to be reckoned with. Together they embark on a journey of self-discovery and worth to learn and except one another for who they are. Along the way factory workers Don (Demitri Lampra) and Lauren (Paula Lane) learn a thing or two about friendship and love, leading the factory to Milan and new beginnings.
An absolutely flawless production from start to finish with incredible energy telling the well-known story perfectly with humour and humility running at the core. The central characters fill the stage with charisma leading the performance giving us a show never to forget. Joel Harper-Jackson is fantastic and keeps on delivering as does Kayi Ushe direct from the West End putting on the patent boots giving us class, sass and sex just as it should be. Paula Lane is hilarious, singing her heart out and one liners to boot! The amazing Angel girls add a certain je ne sais quoi with slick dance numbers and unbelievable presence, dare I say stealing the show whenever on stage!? Overall this is undeniably uplifting, dazzling and incredibly fabulous…!
