In terms of theatres in Leeds, we are spoilt! With various great ones (including The Grand, the West Yorkshire Playhouse, the City Varieties and the CarriageWorks), it’s easy to get spoilt for choice so we’ve summarised everything that’s on this month. Here’s what’s on at the theatre in Leeds through December.

The Grand Theatre –

Dirty Dancing 
1st-6th December

This smash-hit production, based on the film, tells he classic story of Baby and Johnny, two fiercely independent young spirits from different worlds, who come together in what will be the most challenging and triumphant summer of their lives. featuring hit songs, including Hungry Eyes, Hey Baby, Do You Love Me? and the heart stopping I’ve Had The Time of My Life.

Peter Pan
11th-20th December

Presented by Northern Ballot, you can see breathtaking flying as Wendy, John and Michael soar into the night sky with Peter to a magical land of mermaids and fairy dust where children can fly and adventures happen every day. But beware, danger is just around the corner – Captain Hook and his pirates are looking for revenge and Peter Pan is top of their list.

West Yorkshire Playhouse –

White Christmas
All through December

Join us for a spectacular celebration of family and friendship this Christmas as West Yorkshire Playhouse presents a brand-new production of Irving Berlin’s legendary Broadway musical White Christmas. Nikolai Foster, director of the theatre’s smash-hit Annie, returns to direct this fabulously festive show, featuring some of the best songs ever written such as Sisters, Blue Skies, I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm and of course White Christmas

James And The Giant Peach
All through December

This winter fly away on an amazing expedition with Roald Dahl’s hero James, his new-found garden bug friends and one gigantic peach. Join the adventurers as they journey through the sky on an across the world voyage. Have they bitten off more than they can chew in the shark infested waters of the Atlantic Ocean, or will it be plain sailing through the enchanted Palace of the Cloud Men? End this juicy tale with a trip to New York City and find out if everything turns out peachy at the Playhouse for James.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
5th December-10th January

Smply wicked, simply wonderful, simply must be seen! And there are seven other reasons why Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is the pantomime to dwarf all others! Huge helpings of laughter with a generous serving of traditional pantomime audience participation, mixed with stunning scenery, spectacular costumes, a dashing prince and the fairest Snow White of all. Add in seven dwarfs full of mischief and merriment, sprinkle with lots of Woodland Fairy magic dust and then sit back and enjoy.

City Varieties –

Dick Whittington’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto
All through December

Expect all the traditional elements of a family panto with lots of audience interaction and heaps of corny gags, soundtracked by classic pop and soul hits from the 60s, 70s and beyond. A talented cast of actor-musicians leap seamlessly from their character roles to become part of the band, performing all vocals and instruments live on stage… and we mustn’t forget the Legendary Rock Fight (now with added BOULDERS!) which has thrilled Leeds audiences for more than a generation.
