To celebrate its 20th birthday, Leeds based bar group, North Bar, is ramping up its charitable fundraising for St Gemma’s Hospice by launching a limited edition session pale ale.

Since reaching their 20th anniversary in July 2017, staff from all seven North Bar venues have been involved in fundraising activities and have raised over £9,000 for St Gemma’s Hospice. Now they’re nearly halfway to their £20,000 goal, the Leeds-based bar group are ramping up their efforts significantly by rebadging bestselling cask beer Prototype. This will become their limited edition #NB20 Session Pale, with 20p of every pint sold going into the fundraising pot. The beer will be available in all seven bars across Leeds, Otley and Harrogate where a whole variety of fundraising events will also be held in the next six months.

North Bar has proudly supported St Gemma’s Hospice for many years. Located just 5 minutes up the road from North Bar’s HQ, St Gemma’s provides expert care, support, advice and information for terminally ill patients and their families, carers and loved ones. The hospice costs £25,000 to run per day so North Bar invites everyone to come down and enjoy a pint, knowing 20p goes directly to St Gemma’s.

John Gyngell, owner and director of North Bar Ltd says ‘We’re absolutely delighted to have raised so much for St Gemma’s Hospice so far and all of our staff are determined to reach our fundraising goal. St Gemma’s is a truly incredible facility which does so much for patients and families within our community, and we’re extremely proud to continue our support.’

Fay Richardson, Senior Fundraiser (Community and Events) of St Gemma’s says ‘Thank you to North Bar for supporting us so much in their 20th anniversary year, it is fantastic that a locally based business has really taken on board fundraising for us, and wanting to raise £20,000 in their anniversary year. From beer tasting evenings, to skydives, to selling North Bar merchandise and having charity taps in the bars, it is fantastic to know that all the staff at all the seven bars and head office are one hundred percent behind the campaign. Thank you also to all the customers of all the bars that are donating and supporting the fantastic campaign and for your continued support!

‘£20,000 is enough to pay for 44 days of care for a patient at the Hospice and help them have the best possible end of life care and make every day count, which could mean anything from cooking their favourite meal, to helping them with pain relief and symptom control so they have a good night’s sleep, to hosting a family get together. Without the continued support from the people of Leeds, none of this would be possible, so a huge thank you to North Bar for wanting to support and be involved with the Hospice, we really are so grateful’.
