LEEDS CITY MAGAZINE TALKS TO GAVIN MCQUEEN, MANAGER AT PRYZM MERRION CENTRE LEEDS

How did you become the manager of such a fabulous venue?

I initially moved to Leeds to work for another competitor in the city and after a short while I was approached by a former regional director who asked if I was interested in making a move. I met with him and came for a show around the venue and saw the potential and it was a no-brainer! I’ve now been here for just over 18 months and thoroughly enjoy the role.

What would you say makes PRYZM such a successful nightclub?

PRYZM is such a diverse venue and with 6 amazing themed rooms it means we can cater to a mass market, whether someone wishes to dance to party anthems all night in our brand new Tiki bar or relax in our lavish Belvedere VIP lounge there’s something for everyone. Alongside this our fantastic City Centre location makes us first choice for the majority!

So, tell us a little bit about the refurbishment PRYZM has just undergone?

So we’ve just completed a 6 week refurb on the venue to make it the City’s number 1 destination for your night out. Adding 2 brand new rooms into the mix customers can now experience a night of retro classics in our Vinyl room or sip cocktails all night in our Tiki bar – there’s so much going on under one roof you really need to experience it.

What options do you offer for VIP?

We now have 34 individual VIP tables in the venue and these are split across our different rooms, we then have tailored drinks packages to suit different groups preferences. You’ll receive the ultimate VIP treatment for your evening and if you choose to book a table queue jump, VIP entry & table service all come inclusive so you can enjoy your evening to the highest of standards. Contact the venue directly for all enquiries/bookings!

What gives you the most job satisfaction?

It always comes down to the customer, positive feedback and knowing people enjoy themselves when they visit makes the job worthwhile, looking after our returning customers is key to this.

Advice to who wants to follow in your footsteps?

I would definitely have to say work hard and be determined. Have your goals in mind and don’t settle for second best. It’s a tough industry but so rewarding at the same time!
