The Wedding Singer Wow’s Audiences At Leeds Grand Theatre
By Matthew Jameson.
The 80’s never looked so glam as we are whisked back to the time of electro pop, Madonna and when perms were cool the first-time round! Remember Adam Sandler swooning over Drew Barrymore with his unforgettable melodies in the smash hit film? Nothing compares to this fun packed throwback musical as The Wedding Singer hits the stage!
Robbie Hart (Jon Robyns) heads up the hit wedding band Simply Wed, all’s going well and he’s loving life until he himself is jilted at the alter! It’s then up to his friends and wacky granny Rosie (Ruth Madoc) to drag Robbie out of depression and latterly back to life! His close friendship with Julia (Cassie Compton) sees him look in a different direction while still dreaming of love itself. With Julia’s fiancé Glen (Ray Quinn) living life to the max with no care in the world, will they live happily ever after?
Some amazing 80’s themed songs bring this hilarious comedy to the stage with a bang, fantastic sound and staging make you feel you’re there right back in a time warp! Having not seen the film I was laughing out loud all the way through… Some fabulous lines from the iconic Ruth Madoc, every time I see her she cracks me up! Jon Robyns gives a fantastic performance both heart felt and true to the character, loves young dream. My favourite by far, and my mum’s too, was Ray Quinn giving a new meaning to the 80’s Ass Hole, you go Ray! Brilliant show you won’t want to miss as you get into the groove and relax…!
Based on the 1998 film written by Tim Herlihy and starring funny man, Adam Sandler, the Tony Award- nominated musical, featuring X-Factor runner-up and Dancing on Ice Champion of Champions Ray Quinn and comedy veteran Ruth Madoc, promises to get audiences up on their feet to songs that capture the fun and energy of the eighties.

Will they succeed? Will Robbie see Julia head down the aisle with Wall Street bad boy Glen? Or will Grandma Rosie convince Robbie and Julia that they are the perfect couple?
Directed and choregraphed by Nick Winston, the new production also stars West End and musical theatre star Jon Robyns as Robbie, West End leading lady and X-Factor finalist Cassie Comptonas Julia and West End and TV star Stephanie Clift as Holly.
