CHRISTMAS SURVIVAL ‘TIS THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR! ‘TIS THE SEASON TO BE MERRY! ‘TIS THE SEASON WE TEND TO OVER INDULGE TOO.
Christmas is about enjoying yourself and spending time with friends and family after all, we don’t want people worrying about what to eat at the work party or how to cope on Christmas days so we will share some damage limitation techniques for you to try this year, it is Christmas after all!
If you want to avoid spending all of your January burning off the weight you put on during December then here are our top tips for avoiding gaining the festive five kilo’s this year!
1. Limit the number of days you will allow treats
By setting a certain day for treats you instantly cut back on the mindless eating of treats as you are in control of these days. By scheduling these on a certain day it will help you on non-treat days as you know when your next treat is coming. These can also be scheduled around certain events or people you like to eat and drink with.
2. Limit the number of treats you have on those days or per week
Taking control of the amount of treats you allow yourself gives you control over the volume of food you will consume. I used this last year for my self-confessed mince pie addiction. Limiting myself to 3 per week made me much more conscious of my choices and totally stopped me snaffling 3 in one go!
3. Limit the number of days you drink
Taking control of the days you allow yourself a tipple. If you know you like to have a drink after work on Friday or at a family meal on a Sunday then commit to that, this will give you something to look forward to. These can also be scheduled around certain events or people you like to eat and drink with.
4. Limit the amount of drinks you have
Possibly the best one for keeping on a night out. Without putting a limit on drinks on a night out I think we are all aware of how this one usually goes. Setting a limit before you go out again will make you more conscious of your choices.
5. Set an amount of training sessions per week
Commit to a certain expenditure each week and stick to it. Remember if you usually burn 600 calories per day through exercise and suddenly stop then essentially you are eating an extra 600cal!
Conclusion – You can implement all or any of the above strategies to control the Christmas bulge, the point is that you can indulge just aim not to over indulge!
Enjoy yourself, spend time with loved ones and don’t stress if you do gain a couple of pounds.
So long as you are creating happy memories then it can all be worth it. Enjoying a meal and a mince pie with family or friends is a very different story to you eating an entire selection box in your PJ’s because you had a bad day at work after all.
