How did you get into the hospitality industry?
I started off my career in hospitality when I was 15 years old working in a hotel restaurant, from there I took every opportunity to grow my skills and knowledge in different departments.
I worked for the hotel for three years and within that time I had worked within the restaurant, events waiter, bar, reception and nights. From there I knew hospitality was the career for me and made to drive myself to succeed in the ever growing hotel industry.
Can you tell us about your job and what it entails?
I am currently at the funky and fresh ibis Styles Leeds City Centre Arena which opened 14 months ago, I started here as Sales Manager and was lucky enough to be part of the pre- opening team. Since my time with the hotel, I have now been promoted to Senior Guest Service Manager overseeing Front Office, Nights, Breakfast and Housekeeping.
What would you say makes the restaurant and hotel stand out from the rest?
The key thing that stands out to me is the story of the hotel, for those that don’t know each ibis Styles has their own story to tell. Here in Leeds our story is about Leeds/Yorkshire from elements of Cricket to the print works. We are also the only ibis Styles to have a Marco Pierre White Restaurant on-site too and with Marco being a Leeds chap it ties in with the hotel story quite well with the add twist of the New York Italian restaurant.
If you could have dinner at Marcos with 4 people dead or alive who would it be with and why?
Know this is a tricky one…. I would definitely have to say Channing Tatum would be top of the list followed by Cam Gigandet, Cher and Whitney Huston.
What’s your favourite dish on the current menu and what wine would you recommend to drink with it?
My favourite dish one our menu erm…. If I was being healthy our chicken creaser salad but my all time favourite is defiantly the Ragu all Bolognese Pizza and of course it would be rude of me not to recommend a desert to follow, desert would be The Trio perfect to share or even indulge on your own.
What do you do to relax?
When I get the opportunity to relax I like to travel, catch up with friend and family.
If anyone reading this would like to follow in your footsteps what advice would you give them?
The only advice I can give really is make sure you have the passion and the drive to succeed within the industry and don’t be afraid of new experiences within other roles. You never know where the world of hospitality will take you.
With so many events taking place over Summer in millennium square such as Leeds Pride, the theatres and the first Direct arena would you advice people staying in the hotel to book well in advance and do you do an event special menu?
I would always recommend booking in advance to ensure we can accommodate you either from accommodation or dining in Marco’s, but I will say Marco’s would be the perfect place to start you day off with either a cheeky cocktail or two or even a quick bite to each. We have recently launch our bottomless brunch offer which will be available on the day (highly recommend booking for that). We will also be doing some other offers around pride so keep your eyes posted.
